Both run the Pine script itself. Foresight is a compiled Pine v5 and v6 engine in your browser or on Windows, free while in beta, on data you bring or crypto and forex feeds, with walk-forward and robustness tools. Alpha Charts runs Pine v6 on its own US stock data, charges costs and checks every run on held-out data by default, and writes the script with AI. Here is how to choose.
Foresight's column is what foresight.trading says, checked on 24 October 2026.
| ALPHA CHARTS | FORESIGHT | |
|---|---|---|
| What runs your script | The Strategy Tester runs the Pine v6 script you paste, on its own Pine runtime, on real market data | A compiled Pine engine: WebAssembly in the browser, native code in the Windows desktop app; its audit says 99.7% of 28,133 valid community scripts compile and run, and 96.2% of 2,478 scored scripts matched TradingView's entry timing and direction |
| Pine Script | Pine v6, as TradingView has it | Pine v5 and v6, straight from TradingView, including libraries, request.security and drawings; request.financial and economic data are not yet supported |
| Where you work | The Alpha Charts dashboard in the browser, plus the Alpha indicators on TradingView (Pro, Max) | A web app (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari; iOS 17.2 or later) and a Windows 10/11 desktop app with more tools |
| Markets and data | Stocks live from IEX, the full US tape after 15 minutes (Alpaca); daily history from 2016, intraday from one minute | Your own OHLCV CSV files; crypto from Binance, Kraken, Bybit and OKX; forex from Dukascopy, or OANDA with your credentials; US stocks and ETFs daily from Tiingo with your credentials; no data from TradingView or Yahoo Finance |
| Trading costs in a backtest | 5 bps commission and 2.5 bps slippage per side on every run, by default; a commission the script declares wins | Three fill models: TradingView (parity), Realistic (a minimum spread, exits live the bar after entry, the stop wins when stop and target share a bar) and Pessimistic (random adverse slippage); commission shown as cost drag |
| Every backtest | Split into in-sample and out-of-sample with a verdict, drawdown analytics, the full trade list and every trade on the chart | Statistics, an equity curve and parameter dragging with instant re-runs; the full statistics panel and a monthly-returns heatmap on the desktop app |
| Held-out test | Every run: about the last third of the history is kept apart and judged on its own, with its dates and a verdict | Walk-forward validation (optimise in-sample, test out-of-sample, roll forward), PBO from 16 or more optimiser trials, robustness nudges and a deflated Sharpe ratio |
| Optimiser | Fits a script's inputs on the past, judges them on data it never saw, and compares the winner against the best of the same number of random tries (Pro and Max) | Differential evolution on all CPU cores, keeping the best 500 parameter sets; L-SHADE, multi-modal DE and a Sobol sweep on the desktop app |
| AI | The Pine Copilot writes Pine v6 from plain words, checks it and backtests it | No AI writes the script; the desktop app is an MCP server for AI agents, and the web app can be driven by an AI client with fewer tools |
| Free start | Unlimited free backtests on a free account, no card; free tools with no account | Free while in beta, web and desktop on one account; beta desktop builds expire after 30 days |
| Plans | $49.99, $99.99 or $129.99 a month, less on the yearly plan; every plan comes with 30 days money back | Pricing after the beta: to be announced |
The Strategy Tester runs the Pine script itself on real data, not a rewrite of it. Orders fill at the next bar's open, the script never sees future data, and every fill pays 5 bps commission and 2.5 bps slippage per side by default.
Each run is split into an in-sample and an out-of-sample period, stated as dates. The held-out part gets a verdict: survived, decayed, did not survive, or too few trades to judge. Drawdown analytics and the full list of trades come with every run.
The optimiser fits a script's inputs on the past, judges them on data it never saw, and compares the winner against the best of the same number of random tries.
The data and its adjustments, the universe and its survivorship bias, the fill rules and the verdict's thresholds are written out in Data and methodology.
For traders of US stocks and ETFs who want the data included, costs charged and a held-out verdict on every run, with AI writing the script, yes. Foresight is the stronger tool for crypto, forex and your own data files, and for walk-forward and robustness analysis.
Yes. Foresight compiles Pine v5 and v6 and publishes how closely its trades match TradingView's. Alpha Charts runs Pine v6 on its own runtime, so a script can occasionally behave differently than on TradingView.
Foresight is free while its beta lasts; its price afterwards is not announced. Alpha Charts gives a free account unlimited backtests with no card, and every paid plan comes with 30 days money back.
Both, differently. Foresight offers walk-forward validation and PBO when you set them up. Alpha Charts keeps about the last third of every run apart by default and gives it a verdict, and its optimiser is judged against random tries.
Foresight. Alpha Charts backtests US stocks and ETFs, plus NQ, MNQ, ES and MES futures for signed-in accounts.
No. Both run outside TradingView, and neither is affiliated with it. Alpha Charts also puts its indicators on your TradingView chart on the Pro and Max plans.
