Paste your script

Pine v6, as TradingView has it.

What this backtester does

It runs the Pine Script v6 strategy you paste, on its own Pine runtime, on real market data: daily bars from 2016 and intraday bars from one minute for any US stock or ETF, and NQ, MNQ, ES and MES futures for signed-in accounts. A rule that fires on a close fills at the next bar's open; stops and limits fill at the prices the runtime reports inside the bar.

Every fill pays 0.05% commission and 0.025% slippage by default, or the commission the script declares. The result shows net return against buying and holding, Sharpe, profit factor, win rate, worst drawdown and every trade on the chart, and the last third of the bars is judged on its own, with its dates, as a held-out test.

It does not take Pine v4 or v5, and it does not cover crypto, forex or options. The rules, the data and its limits are written out in Data and methodology; the costs a strategy should carry are in Commission and slippage in Pine Script.

Trading futures? The NQ futures backtester and the ES futures backtester open on the contract's 1-minute bars, and a challenge account's rules go in as a prop firm challenge strategy.

What this engine says about the popular strategies

Fourteen textbook rules, run through this backtester on SPY, QQQ, NVDA and others, daily bars since 2016, costs charged, the last third held out, with every trade listed: the results, strategy by strategy.

Questions

Is this Pine Script backtester really free?

Yes. A free account backtests as often as you like, with no card: paste the script, pick a US stock or ETF and a timeframe, and Run opens it in the Alpha Charts terminal on the Free plan, every trade on the chart with commission and slippage charged. The paid plans add more of the AI that writes scripts, the optimiser and the screener, each with 30 days money back.

Does it run my TradingView script as written?

Yes, as Pine Script v6. The tester runs the script itself on its own Pine runtime, not a translation of it, so every rule in the script counts. It is a separate engine from TradingView's, so a script can occasionally behave differently; the data and methodology page says exactly how fills and costs work.

Does it take Pine Script v4 or v5?

No. Paste a v6 script. TradingView's Pine Editor converts most v4 and v5 scripts to v6 with its convert command, and the Pine Copilot on the paid plans rewrites a script in v6 from a description.

Which markets can I backtest?

US stocks and ETFs, with daily history from 2016 and intraday bars from one minute, plus NQ, MNQ, ES and MES futures for signed-in accounts. No crypto, forex or options.

What costs does it charge?

0.05% commission and 0.025% slippage on each side of every trade by default, or the commission the script declares itself. TradingView's own tester charges nothing unless the script sets it, which is the usual reason a result here is lower than the same script's result there.

How is a result judged?

Every run reports net return against buying and holding the symbol, both after costs, with Sharpe, profit factor, win rate, worst drawdown and the full list of trades. The last third of the bars is kept apart and judged on its own, with its dates, so a strategy tuned on the first part is tested on bars it never saw.
